So with Daddy heading to west Texas on Friday, I thought it made perfect sense to drive all three children to Lake Jackson and spend all week there! We did this last year and had a great time...what's an additional baby to add to the mix?!?!:-) With Kindergarten on the horizon next year, I knew this would be our last year for such a long visit during the school year so off we went...DVD player ready to go! Thankfully, everyone did great and we made it to Granna and Bubba's in about 5 hours. Whew! It was great to be there and provided a nice change of pace. Aunt Jennifer, Connor and Luke were there for the first weekend...we had a great time at the Festival of Lights carnival (complete with manmade snow/sledding hill!), parade and playing outside - climbing trees, riding bikes and just being boys! Will, Grady and Luke all slept in sleeping bags in the office/guest room and were troopers! They were in hog heaven! I found it best to police the hall until the room was quiet, otherwise "bedtime" took HOURS!!! Jennifer and the boys headed back to Houston for a couple days then returned when the rest of the family came in town on Wednesday.
After the festivities of the weekend, it was time to get to work! Granna has this Thanksgiving thing down to a science. She has the menu planned months in advance, starts cooking and freezing in September/October, and definitely has "to do's" to get done by the week of. She is the epitome of the energizer bunny...Greg's cousins and aunt and uncle arrive the day before Thanksgiving and it is Johnson family bonding non-stop until Sunday! It's so fun and I marvel at how Becky does it...5 days of feeding 16 people breakfast, lunch, and dinner!!! AMAZING! So by Monday, it was time to get to work! Granna definitely did the lion's share of the work, while I tried to keep the children entertained and draining energy. All in all we had a great time! We celebrated Bubba's birthday after he returned from the hunting trip. The boys were so excited to see Daddy when he arrived on Tuesday...and of course so was RJ, she was ready to gaze! We went to a playground close by, we played in the sprinkler in the back yard, we played at an incredible sprayground/indoor water park at a rec center near their house (the boys LOVED it!), Granna and Bubba rented a bounce house for Wed to Sat (a HUGE hit!), we watched football, rode bikes, the list goes on and on! It was such a fun time and we were all just exhausted by the end of our time there!
Thank you Granna and Bubba for another unforgettable Thanksgiving for all of us! I can't imagine all that goes into making that week possible. We LOVED our family time together!
