Will's Buddy Joe

Will has a very good friend, Joe, who he just can't get enough of!!! It's been so fun to see this friendship grow over the last year at preschool...they were in the same class. According to their teachers, they were almost inseparable. I often wonder if Will is a little TOO taken with Joe...during the school year the after-school conversations in the car would go something like this:

Mommy: How was school today?
Will: Good!
M: Did you have fun?
W: Yes!
M: Who did you play with on the playground today?
W: My buddy, Joe
M: Oh good! Who else?
W: Just my buddy Joe!
M: What about ____ (any of the other 16 children in his class)?
W: No, mommy, just my buddy Joe!

Sometimes, he reported that Joe would want to play something different than Will...so of course, I would ask who he played with then. He would respond "oh, I just played by myself." Now, I know that's not 100% accurate b/c his teachers assured me that Will did play with other children and that he and Joe weren't unkind to others , but I think it's just funny that in his mind there are two people that exist at school : Will and his buddy Joe!

Thankfully, Joe is a GOOD kid! He is the son of good friends from ours from church so that is a huge blessing. The neat thing about all of this is that there is a good chance Will and Joe will grow up together in church and eventually go to school together (that, of course, assumes a whole lot in both of our lives don't change). Anyways, it's just fun to see the 2 boys play together so easily and have so much fun together!

All of this to say, today I had a meeting with Joe's mom up at church and she arranged for a sitter for us to share at her house. So, I went in to Will's room to wake him up this morning so we could get on over to Joe's house. With a still drowsy face and voice, he looked up at me and said "what are we doing this morning?" I asked "do you want to go over to Joe's house to play this morning?" With that, he bounded out of bed, got dressed, and was out the door and in his car seat in less than 2 minutes! LITERALLY!!! It was so funny...that boy can move when he's motivated! All for some time with his buddy Joe!
